Vehicle burnt for ‘Smuggling’ cattle in Lakhanpur
Enraged over the alleged smuggling of bovine animals, an unidentified mob set ablaze a Mahindra load-carrier after rescuing the cattle near Lakhanpur on Thursday.
The unidentified persons also thrashed the driver and another person for allegedly smuggling bovine animals and later handed them to the police. The arrested persons have been identified as Balvinder Singh of Ludhiana and Mohammad Shakib of RS Pura, Jammu.
The police have registered a case against the alleged bovine smugglers and the unknown persons who torched the vehicle.
In another incident, local youth threw stones on a truck and smashed its glasses after they came to know about bovine smuggling at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza. An Excise Department team had detected the truck carrying bovine animals at the toll plaza.
Acting swiftly, the police took the truck to Basantpur police post and rescued the animals. A case has been registered against the bovine smugglers and against the youth who damaged the vehicle.
