If voted to power, will bring autonomy resolution within month, Pulwama-like killings ignite passion for freedom: Farooq Abdullah
The National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that if his party is voted to power with absolute majority, his party bring a autonomy resolution in the State Assembly within a month, “which is our core agenda.”
“If am blessed with good health by Allah and we’re voted to power with absolute majority, I promise that I will make this happen (regional autonomy) within 30 days after assuming power,” Adbullah said while welcoming expelled ex-BJP MLA Gagan Bhagat into the party fold.
Bhagat joined the National Conference in presence of party president Abdullah.
Welcoming Dr Gagan Bhagat into the party fold, Dr Farooq Abdullah, president National Conference and Member Parliament from Srinagar Parliamentary seat, said, “Our party will work for the development of all the regions and all the faiths living in the State, be it Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs.”
Bhagat, the ex-BJP MLA from RS Pura Assembly Segment, was expelled from party after Supreme Court rejected his petition that sought dissolution of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly by Governor SP Malik, earlier this month.

Seven civilians including two teenage students were killed in firing by forces in Sirnoo village of Pulwama on Saturday after three militants and an army man had died in an encounter in an orchard in the village early morning.
Abdullah hoped that J&K police and other forces won’t “act like this” in future and Governor Satya Pal Malik and Union government would ensure such incidents are not repeated.
The Pulwama incident was one of the bloodiest in Kashmir this year. At least 57 persons have been killed by forces near gun battle sites this year as people including teenagers continue to swarm the encounter sites to try and help trapped militants escape.

On the day the state made a transition from Governor’s rule to President’s rule, Abdullah also pitched for early Assembly elections for “allowing people to choose their own government”.

To a question about record 55 bills passed during the Governor’s rule in the state, Abdullah termed the Governor’s rule “dictatorial and autocratic”.
“He (the Governor) does what he wants. We hope that he will not take any such decision which hurts democracy,” said Abdullah.

To a question that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has talked about the idea of grand alliance among parties in the state as well, Abdullah said he doesn’t know anything about it.
But he refused to give a direct reply to a question whether NC will go for an alliance with the BJP
“I can’t talk about what will happen in future. The decision will be based on the outcome of (election) results and whatever the situation we will take the decision accordingly,” said Abdullah.
The NC leader said “forces” which have been plotting to divide people of the state would try to use money power to divide people.
“The need of the hour is to ensure unity to put up a strong front for the cause of state and our people,” he said.
