Six deaths, 387 fresh cases of coronavirus reported from across J&K

Six more persons including five from Kashmir died of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in J&K to 160, officials said.
A 35-year-old woman from Srinagar died at Chest Disease Hospital. Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Saleem Tak said she shifted from SMHS on July 08.

“She was suffering from hypertension, acute bilateral pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome and died today at 9 am,” he said
An 80-year-old man from Kokernag died at the CD Hospital late Thursday. Tak said the deceased was admitted on July 04 with bilateral pneumonia.
Another 82-year-old coronavirus positive man from Habba Kadal Srinagar died at the CD hospital. The Medical Superintendent said the man was admitted on June 07 and today Friday.

“He was suffering from hypertension, community-acquired pneumonia and diabetes,” he said.

A 75-year-old man from Daksum area of Kupwara died at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital Bemina on Friday afternoon.

As per officials, the deceased was suffering from pneumonia, hypertension, diabetes was admitted at the coronavirus dedicated hospital on July 04.
Another 95-year-old man from Shopian suffering from pneumonia died at Bemina hospital on Friday evening making second coronavirus casualty reported at the hospital.

On Thursday evening, a 33-year-old leader of the National Conference died of coronavirus at GMC Jammu. The deceased was on life support due to severe Covid-19 symptoms.

With the five fresh casualties, the death toll due to the novel coronavirus has soared to 160 in J&K that includes 145 from Kashmir and 15 from Jammu.
As per figures, Srinagar has witnessed 39 deaths, Baramulla 31, Kulgam 18, Shopian 16, Anantnag 13, Budgam 11, Jammu nine, Kupwara eight, Pulwama four, Bandipora three, Doda two, Ganderbal, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri one each.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases continue to go up in Jammu and Kashmir as Friday witnessed 387 fresh cases including 290 from Kashmir and 97 from Jammu, taking the infection tally to 9888.

Friday’s cases include 94 from Srinagar, Rajouri 51, Pulwama 47, Baramulla 36, Kupwara 34, Kulgam 33, Jammu 23, Shopian 14, Anantnag, Ramban 11 each,Bandipora eight, Ganderbal, Kathua seven each, Budgam six, Poonch two, Samba, Doda, reasi one each.

Of these cases, 125 samples returned positive at Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar, which tested 1505 samples in the past 24 hours.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said they include 37 Army/CRPF/SSB men, 33 from Pulwama, Srinagar 17, Anantnag 12, Kulgam 10, Budgam seven, Bandipora six, Kupwara two and Baramulla one.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Friday tested 394 samples of which 62 cases returned positive. Officials said the cases include 46 from Srinagar and 16 from Shopain.

The government said, of the 4,37,928 test results available, 4,28,040 returned negative and 9888 positive which include 3943 active positive cases while 5786 have recovered and discharged including 91 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.

It said, so far, 3,08,573 persons had been put under observation including 38,509 in home quarantine, 3943 in hospital isolation and 44 in hospital quarantine while 44,932 people are under home surveillance and 2,20,986 persons have completed their surveillance period.

So far, Kashmir has reported 7794 cases while Jammu division has 2094 cases.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops list with 1545 cases, followed by Baramulla with 1251, Kulgam 963, Shopian 887, Anantnag 775, Kupwara 709, Pulwama 640, Budgam 528, Bandipora 336 and Ganderbal 160.

In Jammu division, Jammu has 452 cases followed by Udhampur with 298, Kathua 272, Ramban 254, Samba 218, Rajouri 240, Poonch 139, Doda 124, Reasi 53 and Kishtwar 44.

Jammu and Kashmir has so far reported 160 deaths to coronavirus pandemic of which 145 have been reported from Kashmir division alone.
