With 154 fresh COVID Cases, JK witnesses a highest-ever single-day spike

Jammu Kashmir Thursday recorded 154 COVID-19 cases including 134 from Kashmir and 20 from Jammu, taking the total infection tally to 7849.
Thursday’s cases include 51 from Srinagar, Baramulla 19, Anantnag 17, Kulgam 15, Budgam 12, Pulwama 10, Ganderbal seven, Doda six, Samba five, Jammu and Udhampur four each, Bandipora two, and Shopian and Ramban one each.

Of these cases, 61 samples returned positive at Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab (VDRL) of SKIMS Srinagar which tested 1766 samples during the past 24 hours.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan said the cases include 16 from Anantnag, Srinagar 14, Kulgam 13, 18 Army and paramilitary CRPF men, two each from Pulwama and Budgam, and one each from Kupwara, Shopian, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Udhampur, Jammu districts.
The COVID-19 testing lab of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital Bemina also tested 503 samples of which 27 cases returned positive on Thursday.
The cases include 23 from Budgam including 14 CRPF men from Sanat Nagar and four from Srinagar.

The coronavirus dedicated hospital has so far admitted 635 positive patients, 499 of which were discharged while 131 are undergoing treatment.
The government said of the 3,77,961 test results, 3,70,112 returned negative and 7849 positive including 2760 active positive cases while 4974 have recovered and been discharged including 118 persons discharged during the past 24 hours.

It said, so far, 2,88,136 persons had been put under observation including 40,953 in home quarantine, 2760 in hospital isolation, and 33 in hospital quarantine while 45,761 people are under home surveillance, and 1,98,514 persons have completed their surveillance period.

In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 1021 cases, followed by Baramulla with 928, Kulgam 846, Shopian 801, Anantnag 692, Kupwara 553, Pulwama 518, Budgam 434, Bandipora 296, and Ganderbal 110.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 363 cases followed by Udhampur with 284, Ramban 223, Kathua 232, Samba 152, Poonch 123, Rajouri 115, Doda 86, Reasi 45, and Kishtwar 27.

Jammu Kashmir has so far reported 116 deaths to coronavirus pandemic of which 102 have been reported from Kashmir division.

Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir witnessed 12 COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours including 11 from Kashmir, taking the death toll to 116, officials said.
This is the highest-ever single day spike of COVID-19 deaths recorded so far.
A 55-year-old coronavirus positive man from Yaripora area of Kulgam died at SKIMS Srinagar, 10 days after he was admitted to the hospital.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said the man died at midnight and was a known case of hypertension and diabetes coupled with multifocal encephalopathy.

Another 65-year-old man from Sopore area of Baramulla died at the institute.
The deceased was suffering from hypertension, diabetes and died of cardiopulmonary arrest.

“The Sopore man was admitted on June 22. His body was kept in the mortuary as the COVID-19 test was pending, which later returned positive,” he said.

Another 65-year-old man from Tarigam area of Kulgam died at the institute.
Jan said the man was referred from GMC Anantnag on June 23 as a case of community-acquired pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

A 65-year-old man from Nadigam area of Shopian admitted to the infectious disease at SKIMS Soura on Wednesday also died on Thursday.
He was a positive case of COVID-19.

“The elderly man was a case of coronary artery disease with pneumonia and type 2 respiratory failure and died Thursday afternoon,” Jan said.
Later in the day, a 75-year-old man from Kawoosa area of Budgam diagnosed with motor neuron disease and pneumonia died at the premier institute.
“He tested positive for coronavirus and died at 7:25 pm due to cardiopulmonary arrest,” he said.

Three COVID-19 deaths were also witnessed at SMHS Hospital.
MS SMHS, Dr Nazir H Chowdary said a 65-year-old man from Kulgam with bilateral pneumonia died Thursday afternoon.

Two other deaths include a 75-year-old man from Budgam and a 65-year-old patient from Batamaloo Srinagar.

Another 60-year-old man from Habba Kadal, Srinagar died at Chest Disease Hospital three days after he was admitted there for COVID-19 treatment.
MS CD Hospital, Dr Saleem Tak said the deceased was suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and pneumonia and also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

As per the officials, Jammu also reported one COVID-19 death on Thursday.
Earlier Wednesday evening, two COVID-19 deaths were reported at SKIMS Srinagar.

Jan said one of these was a 50-year-old woman from Kupwara suffering from cancer.

Another COVID-19 death was a 45-year-old man from Shangus Anantnag who had been admitted on June 28 as a case of blood cancer and died of cardiopulmonary arrest.

With these 12 deaths during the past 24 hours, the death toll due to coronavirus in J&K has soared to 116 with 102 from Kashmir.
Srinagar has witnessed 27 deaths, Baramulla 18, Kulgam 16, Shopian 12, Anantnag nine, Budgam and Jammu eight each, Kupwara six, Pulwama four, Doda two, Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri one each.
