5 Dead, 2 Injured as tempo falls into Gorge in Ramban
Five people including four women died on spot after a passenger vehicle in which they were traveling skidded off the link road and fell into a gorge near Ganoteh Kashtigarh in Ramban on Tuesday afternoon. The ill-fated Tempo Traveller was moving from Ramban to Doda.
Police sources said the accident victims had come to Chuchater in Ramban to condole the death of slain ASI Ghulam Hassan Bhat, killed in Zeewan militant attack on Monday evening.
The police report said a Tempo Traveler bearing registration number (JK06-2675) was on its way to Kashtigarh from Chuchatar, went out of control of its driver at Ganoteh area of Kashtigarh and fell into around 300 feet deep gorge resulting in the death of four women passengers on spot, whereas driver of the ill-fated vehicle succumbed at PHC Rajgarh whereas two injured were admitted at PHC Rajgarh for treatment, they were later shifted to District Hospital Ramban.
Police identified the deceased woman as Rashida Banoo daughter of Mushtaq Ahmed, Rubeena Begum wife of Javeed Ahmed, Amana Begum wife of Abdul Rehman, Asia Banoo daughter of Muhammad Ibrahim and driver of the vehicle Sajjad Ahmed son of Abdul Hameed all residents of adjoining areas of Kashtigarh.
All the dead bodies were at PHC Rajgarh when this report was being filed.
Police identified the two injured as Muhammad Yaseen son of Mohammad Mushtaq resident of Chuchattar and Khalid son of Muhammad Iqbal.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Post Kashtigarh of Doda Police Station as the area falls under its jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam has assured financial assistance of Rs 30000 in favor of the slain and Rs 25000 in favor of the injured in the accident.
The DC has urged the drivers to drive within utmost care on the Chanderkot- Rajgarh- Chuchattar road and said that he will submit a proposal for the installation of crash barriers and parapets to safeguard the lives of those commuting on road.
