Kashmir reels under Heat Wave; Two-day wet spell from Tuesday predicts MeT
The Kashmir Valley continues to remain in the grip of a heat wave, even as the mercury dipped a little and settled at 33.4 degree Celsius, officials said.
The weather remained mainly hot in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours and the Met Department forecast on Saturday that hot and mainly dry weather is likely to continue in the next 24 hours.
“Current heatwave is expected to break on July 4 as light to moderate rain is likely to occur on July 4 and 5,” a department official said.
Srinagar had 33.4, Pahalgam 28.4 and Gulmarg 23.0 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature on Saturday.
Drass in Ladakh Region had 13.5, Leh 15.4 and Kargil 18.7 as the minimum temperature.
Jammu had 35.1, Katra 32.2, Batote 27.1, Banihal 28.6 and Bhaderwah 31.9 as the maximum temperature.
Meanwhile, Kashmir is likely to get relief from hot weather conditions as Meteorological Department has forecasted light rains between 5-7th July, while Kupwara was the hottest places in Kashmir on Saturday and settled at 34.1°C.
Deputy Director Meteorological Department Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad told that they were expecting light to moderate rains from 5th to 7th July in Kashmir region.
He said this spell would likely bring relief from hot weather conditions in the valley. In next 24 hours, the prevailing weather conditions will remain same, Mukhtar said.
As heat wave is gripping Kashmir valley from past several days, Srinagar recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday. While minimum temperature night was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius.
Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded 23.0 degrees Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature was recorded at 14.6 degrees.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 28.4°C, and Qazigund 30.2°C respectively.
Kupwara in north Kashmir was the hottest place in Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 34.1C, while minimum 20.7°C respectively.
While maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 35.1degree Celsius and minimum 26.1 degree Celsius. On June 30, Srinagar recorded season’s hottest day temperatures at 34.2 °C degrees Celsius.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded the highest temperature ever in June at 37.8 °C on 29th June 1978. 35.0 °C was recorded in June 2018 and it was followed by 34.7 °C on 9th June 2021.
As per traffic advisory issued here, subject to fair weather and better road conditions SANJY convoy /LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing this traffic.
CUT OFF TIMINGS FOR SHRI AMAR NATH JI YATRIES:
SANJY convoy from Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu) towards Baltal at 0400 hrs, SANJY convoy from Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu) towards Pahalgam at 0500 hrs, SANJY convoy from Baltal towards Jammu at 0600 hrs. and SANJY convoy from Nunwan (Pahalgam) towards Jammu at 0630 hrs.
CUT OFF TIMINGS FOR LMVS/PASSENGER/PRIVATE CARS:
To be released from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0730 hrs. to 1130 hrs. from Jakheni (Udhampur) 0830 hrs to 1230 hrs &from Qazigund 1130 hrs to 1400 hrs. The above traffic will use Jawahar Tunnel route up to 1400 hrs.
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut-off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut-off timings.
HMVs/Load Carriers
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, HMVs shall be allowed from Jakhani (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after assessing the traffic situation on NH-44. TCU Udhampur shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the HMVs.
SFs Convoy Movement
Security Forces are advised/requested not to ply against the advisory/traffic plan in view of possible traffic congestion because of narrow carriage way between Nashree and Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
On Sunday they may ply from Jammu towards Srinagar after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
SSG Road
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.
LMVs will be released from Minamarg towards Srinagar 0630 hrs. to 1700 hrs. & from Sonamarg towards Kargil 0500 hrs.
To 1700 hrs. However, HMVs will be released from Minamarg towards Srinagar 0730 hrs. to 1130 hrs. & from Sonamarg towards Kargil 1300 hrs. to 1900 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed between 1900 hrs and 0500 hrs.
Mughal Road
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Poonch on Mughal road.
LMVs followed by HMVs will be released from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch at 0700 hrs. upto 1600 hrs. LMVs will be released from Behramgalla (Buffliaz), Poonch towards Srinagar at 0700 hrs upto 1400 hrs.
Advisory for people
People are advised to undertake journey on NHW-44 only after confirming status of the road from Traffic control units as under:-
