AIIMS issue: Civil groups’ hunger strike enters second day in J&K
A chain hunger strike launched by the coordination committee of various civil groups demanding setting up of AIIMS in Jammu region entered the second consecutive day on Saturday.
“People from various sections have joined the huger strike in support of demand for setting up of an AIIMS. We will continue it till our demand is not met,” President Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI), Rakesh Gupta told reporters here.
To press their demand for an AIIMS here, the AIIMS coordination committee supported by the members from other civil society groups yesterday started its indefinite dharna amid chain hunger strike led by Abhinav Sharma, president of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar association.
The committee supported by Congress are staging a sit-in in front of the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi Bridge.
The AIIMS coordination committee, an amalgam of more than 70 social, religious, political and business organizations in the region, was established after the reported shifting of AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir.
