Non-state subject can’t become JK resident: NC

‘It was Baig’s idea to shift Srinagar offices to Parihaspora’

Reacting strongly to PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig’s remarks on West Pakistan Refugees, the National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar Sunday said no non-state subject can become a permanent resident of Jammu and Kashmir and that NC will oppose any such move tooth and nail.

Sagar said Baig is considered senior-most leader after Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, in the PDP. “But his remarks reflect how low this party has stooped on this serious issue. I am surprised how he has issued such a statement despite knowing the JK Constitution well,” Sagar said. “Being an imminent lawyer, Baig should have thought hundred times before making such assertions.”
Sagar said NC would “stand like a rock in the way of implementation of such moves.” “We will not allow settlement of WPRs,” he said. Sagar said it was Baig “who coined the idea of shifting the civil secretariat offices from Srinagar to Parihaspora.”
“It was due to our stiff opposition in the Legislative Assembly that the move was shelved,” he said.
