The government run schools in JK continue to be a serious concern for the state as 27 schools have scored zero in the annual results of class 10th that were announced on Monday.

The number of government schools with zero percent performance in the 10th class examination in 2013 was 37 and in 2012 the number was 12. As per the evaluation carried out by the Education department some schools have repeatedly shown poor performance.

Moreover, some schools have failed to improve results despite the number of students who appeared in the examination being less than five.

A majority of 14176 students who failed to qualify are from government-run schools.

The number of schools that registered zero percent results in Baramulla is nine, including a private school- Model Public School Doabgah, Sopore. In Srinagar district the number of such schools is four while as in Budgam five schools have registered zero results.

Four each in Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kupwara, one in Pulwama have shown zero percent results in the 10th class annual regular examinations. Besides, results in some schools is below five percent.

In Government Central High School Jadeed, Baramulla only two students appeared in the annual exams however the result is zero.

Following the dismal performance of the schools, government is mulling to take action against the teachers posted in such schools.

Commissioner Secretary School education department has sought the details from the Directorate of School education, Kashmir (DSEK) as well.

“After receiving the communication from Secretary Education, we have enlisted the names of 27 schools where the performance was zero in the 10th class results. The list will be forwarded to the government for further course of action,” said Director School Education, Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Beigh.

He said efforts were on to increase the enrollment in the government schools across Kashmir and improve the performance of the students enrolled in these institutions.
