‘Separatists will be released after proper bail from court’

Police claimed to have released all ‘stone pelters’ who were detained by them to ensure smooth polling in Kashmir valley.
During past one week authorities launched a massive crackdown on “anti-election” protesters to ensure peaceful polling in the fourth phase in Srinagar district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Amit Kumar told Rising Kashmir all ‘stone pelters’ who were arrested ahead of the elections have been released.
“The arrests were made as a preventive measure to have violence-free elections in the city,” said Kumar.
As per reports 1200 people were detained from Shopian, Srinagar and Anantnag to prevent any kind of violence on the polling day.
However, SSP Srinagar said he doesn’t have the exact number of youth arrested in the city.
“I don’t have the numbers but everyone has been released,” he said.
Most of the youth who were arrested were booked for stone pelting in 2008 and 2010 uprising.
Many separatist leaders were also detained before the elections while chairmen of two Hurriyats Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were put under house arrest.
Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar said the separatist leaders, detained ahead of the state elections, will be released along with the ‘stone throwers’ who were earlier kept under preventive custody.
“Arrangements are being made to release the people who were earlier kept under custody. We are releasing them and related steps are being taken for the same,” he said.
SSP Srinagar said, “The separatist leaders would be released after getting a proper bail from the court.”
