Bukhari overshadows Dr Hina’s magic

Nasir sinks in Amira Kadal; 208 opt for NOTA

Peoples Democratic Party candidate Syed Altaf Bukhari Tuesday marked his victory from Amira Kadal constituency defeating his arch- rival and National Conference leader Nasir Aslam Wani with a margin of 5,341 votes.

The star-campaigner of BJP Dr Hina Bhat on the other hand failed to make impression in Amira Kadal Assembly segment as she could only bag 1359 votes though claiming that Prime Minister Narendera Modi’s magic worked in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bukhari bagged 11,726 votes defeating Wani who secured 6,385 votes. Sheikh Amir Rasool of Congress managed only 318 votes. Interestingly, in Amira Kadal constituency, 208 people have pressed the None Of The Above (NOTA) button.
Talking to reporters at SKICC, Bukhari attributed his victory to people of Amira Kadal, who reposed “big faith” in him. “Now it’s my duty to safeguard their interests and to serve them,” he said.
BJP candidate Dr Hina while commenting on the results said victory or defeat is part of the game. “I gave my best that’s it,” she told reporters. “But yes, one thing is clear that Prime Minister Modi’s magic has really worked in JK and there is no doubt in that. I am hopeful that my party leadership will sit and evolve a strategy on alliance.”
Dr Hina claimed that BJP has managed to make its presence felt in all the three regions of the State. Party’s star-campaigner in Srinagar, Dr Hina also shared podium with Prime Minister Modi during his rally at SK Stadium. On what led to her defeat she said “Rigging was the major reason.” “I was crying on the Election Day and even presiding officers were involved in rigging. Plus the administration was also not on our side and instead they spread a hate campaign against me and my party,” she told Greater Kashmir.
Dr Hina said that separatist leaders ran a boycott campaign on one hand and supported PDP candidate on the other. “So all these factors were responsible for my defeat,” she said. Dr Hina said she will continue to work for strengthening BJP in Kashmir. “I would ensure my party emerges stronger in the coming years,” she said.
