Communal forces want to exploit poll boycott in Srinagar: Bukhari

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and party candidate for Amira kadal constituency Syed Altaf Bukhari on Monday said that through an inclusive agenda of peace, prosperity and development PDP wants to develop a sense of rebuilding society together wherein citizens and a progressive government hand-in-hand can give a new direction to the trouble torn state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing various door-to-door meetings in Rawalpora area, Bukhari said the high rates of abstention in assembly elections especially in Srinagar city reflect an expression of people’s sense of powerlessness that has been there due to misgovernance and political ineptitude under National Conference regimes. “Unfortunately this time the communal forces are eager to exploit such a situation in the City to fulfill their divisive agenda. But I am sure that on December 14, people will come out to vote to defeat the nefarious designs of BJP by reacting pragmatically to the realities of changing political situation in Kashmir,” Bukhari stressed.
He observed that people in all the eight assembly segments of the Srinagar City have the experience of voting for National Conference in 2008 and they are yet to come to the terms due to the neglect and inexplicable situation they faced during the last six years. “Worst political opportunism coupled with vested interests embedded itself in the gaps between people who had voted for a purpose and what the NC government actually did in last six years,” Bukhari observed.
