Geelani calls for Kashmir shutdown to protest Modi’s visit

All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday called for complete shutdown on December 8 against the proposed visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu and Kashmir and on the following day in Budgam, Pulwama and Baramulla.

In a statement, Geelani urged people to protest Modi’s visit. “Jammu and Kashmir is not a legitimate or constitutional part of India but a disputed territory. New Delhi and its leaders have accepted right to self-determination and pledged before the world community that Kashmiri people will be granted the right to choose their political future by plebiscite and despite this they since 67 years failed in their commitments and resorted to all forms of atrocities and highhandedness to strengthen their forced control over the state,” he alleged.

“They looted our natural resources and are hell-bent to change demography, our culture and civilization,” said Geelani.

“It is extremely shocking and India with all its deceit, swindling, cheating and military might tried to subjugate people of Kashmir and failed to keep its word in accordance to its pledge with people of state,” he said.

The APHC chairman maintained that since last 67 years people of Jammu and Kashmir are perusing genuine demand based on justice and “it should be resolved as per the relevant resolutions of the UN and added that instead India on one hand misleads international community over this issue and on the other hand with their might are suppressing the aspirations of people.”

“They are following Chanakiya policies and deceptive politics. They instead of addressing the real issue are portraying the issues related to development, change, construction and employment. The issue like development and constructions are of secondary importance for those striving for freedom and perusing a great cause,” he said.

In his appeal to business community, transporters, and employees he urged to cooperate and make shut down call a success on December 8.
