Distributes relief cheques to flood victims

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani is scheduled to address a Friday prayer meeting on December 26 at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora here.

“Prior to Friday prayers on December 26, Geelani will, Insha Allah, address the public at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora here. He will throw light on prevailing situation in Muslim world and problems being faced by the Muslims,” Hurriyat spokesman said in a statement today, appealing to the people to visit Jamia Masjid Hyderpora on Friday to hear the senior leader.
Pertinently, the police lifted siege from Geelani’s Hyderpora residence on December 22 evening.
“Police lifted siege from Geelani Sahib’s residence on December 22 evening. However some policemen in civvies are still seen moving around his residence,” said the spokesman, adding, “Geelani Sahib is virtually under house arrest since 2010. Restrictions on him were removed during September floods but with the announcement of elections in the state, he was again placed under house arrest till December 22.
Meanwhile, at a cash relief distribution function held today at Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) headquarters, Hyderpora here, Geelani distributed relief cheques worth Rs five lakh and kits containing essential commodities among 50 flood-hit families of Srinagar and Islamabad (Anantnag) districts with each family getting cheque for Rs 10000 and a relief kit.
“This was Tehreek-e-Hurriyat’s 16th phase of cash distribution package for victims whose houses were completely damaged in the devastating floods that struck the Valley in September,” said the spokesman, adding that Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has so far distributed relief cheques to 800 victim families.
