Kashmir settlement master key for peace in South Asia: Gilani

In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute will prove as master key for peace and prosperity of the entire South Asian region.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Kashmir is a disputed territory, which has been accepted by all the world bodies including the United Nations.” He made it clear that the territory was not a legal part of India.

“This UN has many a times advocated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir should be given a chance to decide their future and the resolution passed on 5th January 1949 clearly states that a referendum should be held in the territory under the supervision of international community and the right to self determination of the people of this region should be respected,” he added.

India is bound to implement these resolutions and co-operate in holding a referendum in the region, he stressed.

Addressing the need for settlement of the dispute as early as possible, Gilani further said that the resolution of the Kashmir issue should be in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.

The veteran leader appealed to the United Nations Secretary General to play his role in the implementation of the World Body’s resolutions on Kashmir and use his influence for the protection of human lives in this region.
