‘Kashmiri songs, roses to greet PM Modi in Srinagar’

BJP hires 2500 vehicles to ferry activists on Dec 8; city to be draped in 6000 hoardings, posters

A group of young women were singing traditional Kashmiri songs at the BJP office in Srinagar in the run-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally here on December 8. The party office is abuzz with activities these days as BJP activists are busy in preparations to ensure grand success of Modi’s rally.

“We are confused which song to select,” said a woman activist of BJP, adding, “We have shortlisted three and will sing one soon after Modi arrives at the venue.”
With three days left for Modi’s arrival, the BJP office in Rajbagh area of the city is wearing a festive look. Many youth activists have been directed to collect fresh roses to be showered on PM Modi. “It is difficult to find roses this time of the year. But we have identified some places wherefrom we will pluck fresh roses early December 8 morning,” they said.
BJP’s Kashmir affairs in-charge Ramesh Arora is giving final touches to the preparations. “We have constituted a 23-member committee to ensure all the preparations are done. The committee is headed by Tarun Chug, BJP’s National In-charge of PM’s rally,” Arora told Greater Kashmir.
He said they have identified 14 Assembly constituencies, including all eight segments of Srinagar, with direction to party cadre to ensure at least 5000 people from each segment. “Our target is that at least one lakh people would attend the rally,” Arora said.
A BJP insider said that the party has hired 2500 vehicles that include Tata Sumos and buses to ferry party activists to the venue.
“6000 hoardings and posters printed in New Delhi are being erected in Srinagar at various important locations. The hoardings and posters of PM Modi will have a message for Kashmiri people,” he said. “At least 100 youth activists of the party have been assigned the job to erect the posters and hoardings.”
A BJP activist at the party office said that elaborate arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth rally. “This is obviously a huge moment for us,” he said. “We have made all the arrangements to ensure proper accommodation for the people. Stage is being also decorated in a unique way.”
Sources said that Rs 5 lakh have been spent alone on the flowers, garlands, and bouquets to be presented to Modi by the State BJP leaders.
They said Modi will land at Nehru helipad and reach SK Stadium in the form of a road show. “There won’t be any announcements by him given the fact that model code of conduct is in place. His speech would be purely political,” a BJP source said.
