Construct toilets instead of holding festivals: Wangnoo

Travel trade bodies appealed Tourism Department Kashmir not to devise any festival or tourism promotional programs without the consultation of the tourism stakeholders.
Chairman IATO J&K Chapter A Khaliq Wangnoo criticized tourism department for spending money on festivals like Jeshn-e-Chiliakalan which doesn’t do much to promote tourism.
He said Jeshn-e-chiliakalan was a futile exercise.
“It was a total futile exercise and wastage of money,” said Wangnoo.
He asked tourism department to take into consultation the tourism stakeholders before devising any promotional program.
“We are tax payers and tourism department is spending public money. Why shouldn’t it consult those people who deal with tourism and attract tourists,” said Wangnoo.
He criticized state administration for not having good facilities for public convenience.
“We don’t have proper lavatory points in Srinagar. What type of basic facility we have for tourists. Instead of spending money of Jeshn-e-chilaikalan, tourism department should have used it for constructing one or two public toilets or organized road shows outside the state,” said Wangnoo.
