Security Beefed Up Ahead of Jan 26

In the run up to January 26, Kashmir Thursday witnessed heightened security with forces erecting barricades on several roads.
Senior police officials here said stringent security arrangements have been put in place in to ensure smooth R-day functions. “All security agencies are cooperating with each other to ensure incident-free functions on January 26,” they said.
Since Thursday morning, contingents of police and paramilitary forces were seen carrying out frisking of vehicles and checking identity cards of pedestrians. The forces have erected barricades at Lal Chowk, M A Road, near Civil Secretariat, Dalgate, Parimpora, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma, Hari Singh High Street, SK Park, and scores of other places.
Official sources said movement of people is also being monitored through Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) installed at various places in Srinagar.
Police sources said foolproof security arrangements have also been made in and around Bakshi Stadium—the main venue of January 26 function in Srinagar.
They said police gathered details about people residing around Bakshi Stadium.
Officials said security has also been beefed up in Pulwama, Shopian and (Anantnag) Islamabad districts of South Kashmir, and Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora districts of north Kashmir.
The Hurriyat Conference (G), Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and other pro-freedom groups have called for complete shutdown on January 26.
