Settling PaK refugees in JK BJP’s conspiracy: DeM
Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chairperson Syedah Aasiyeh Andrabi today termed the ‘recommendations’ of BJP government about settling refugees from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) in Kashmir a part of its ‘anti Kashmir policy’.
“Through this they wish to change the Muslim majority status of the State. If Kashmir issue is seen in its historical perspective it is evident that this decision is an unrealistic and dictatorial one,” she said in a statement issued today.
“ Since 1947, a Joint rehabilitation board was set up under Sheikh Abdullah for the settlement of these refugees in which it was decided that the migrant Hindus from 1508 villages of Pakistan administered Kashmir will be settled in 14 tehsils of Jammu. Each family will be provided 0. 8 acres of irrigated land and 12 acres of un-irrigated land. That summed up to a total of 715545 kanals of land,” she said.
“Further it was decided that all the families will be provided Rs 2,260,00,000 as relief. Thus rehabilitation was done at that time. But RSS in 1994 again racked up this issue and a meeting of the Relief and Rehabilitation Department was held under the additional secretary of that time. In the meeting it was established that since 1981, only 500 families of refugees needed to be rehabilitated and out of these only 116 were found to be genuine who were then settled in Patoli and Jammu, she said, adding, “Therefore in light of these facts no Kashmiris cannot remain silent against these recommendations and we should raise our voice in unison against this nefarious design .”
She further saud that if RSS is so worried about these refugees they should settle them in India.
“We will never allow Kashmir to be transformed into another Palestine. They have settled so many Non-State Subjects in Jammu Kashmir and now they want to give it a legal cover so that Muslim majority status of the State can be changed,” she said, adding, “The rallies held for the rights of these refugees were organized by RSS. Therefore all Hurriyat parties, Bar Association and common Muslim masses should stand up against this issue. If BJP,’s anti-Muslim policy cannot unite us then we should be prepared for a future like that of Palestine.”
