BJP, PDP have agreed to settle WPRs: Hurriyat (G)

‘They want to execute plan secretly’

Hurriyat Conference (G) general secretary Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji today claimed that the BJP and PDP—alliance partners of new state government, have mutually agreed to settle the West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) permanently in Jammu and Kashmir. “The government policy regarding the West Pakistan Refugees is ambiguous and unclear and it looks that a conspiracy has been hatched to permanently settle them in JK and all the possible alliance partners have agreed on its secret implementation. The stand of BJP regarding to this issue is although known to everybody but PDP is going to play a cunning game over it,” a Hurriyat spokesman quoted Sumji as saying while addressing the meeting of amalgam executive body here.

“The alliance partners have mutually agreed upon the issuing of permanent state subject certificates to the WPRs but because of the public resistance, they didn’t want to make this decision public and want to execute it secretly. As the result of partition the people who migrated to Jammu & Kashmir from the western Pakistan are residing in Jammu here as our guests for the last 68 years and their permanent settlement in this disputed state has no legal or moral justification. The state constitution has unambiguous and clear stand regarding this issue and it doesn’t allow any non-state subject to permanently settle in this state,” Sumji said, adding that “We are not enemies of the refugees and we consider their matter as human issue but India has 28 states and these refugees can be permanently settled in any of the states without disturbing the disputed status of JK,” he said.
