Govt indecisive on extension of winter vacations
Anxious parents want govt to act fast
The mounting number of deaths and patients having H1N1 has triggered panic in Kashmir with parents seeking urgent intervention by government to extend the vacations.
“How can we send our wards to the school where there is massive gathering of students who are at high risk of this virus,” said Abdul Rasheed, a patient from Sanatnagar.
Adding to the chaotic situation are various reports by local news gathering agencies and on social media, which refer to different dates of commencement of the vacations.
“Nothing is helping. The government seems to be directionless as they don’t know which way to proceed. It seems they like to downplay the swine flu situation but if that is the case it cannot be done at the cost of health of children,” said another parent.
The education department which is already in a fix as all of its school and board exams are yet to be conducted seems to be at lost of avenues. “They should atleast close lower classes for the time being as such children are more vulnerable,” said another parent.
