J&K CM seeks release of political prisoners
Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday directed police chief K Rajendra to release political prisoners, who are not facing criminal charges.
“Initiating a process of release of political prisoners would send a positive message across the political spectrum of the state,” an official spokesman quoted Sayeed telling Rajendra and CID IG B Srinivasan.
“The dissent in democracy makes the system vibrant and dynamic and we should always try to evolve such a system. Democracy is a battle of ideas and it should not be held hostage to the agreements or disagreements on issues.”
Sayeed directed Rajendra to prepare a plan for rehabilitation of surrendered and released militants to integrate them into the mainstream.
He said these youth should be given chance to settle down and lead a normal life.
