NC seeks discussion on Article 370 in Assembly

National Conference (NC) on Thursday raked up the issue of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and moved a resolution to hold a discussion over it.

During the grants of departments, NC member Devendar Singh Rana today stood up from his opposition bench and sought reply from Speaker Kavinder Gupta as to why his resolution on preservation of Article 370 and debate on it in the House was rejected.

While the Speaker maintained that it was dropped in the draw lots.

“I have moved a private members resolution that Article 370 should be preserved and restored to its original form as is enshrined in the constitution of India,” Rana said.

“It was rejected–it is very important– there should be discussion on it in the House– it is concern of the House,” he said.

Rana said there were various voices up on this issue and because it is a constitutional guarantee provided to the state in the Constitution of India.

“It should be debated on. We should have a discussion and unanimously resolved to strengthen it and bring it back to its original form,” he said.

On this, Minister for Horticulture Abdul Rehman Veeri said it was a political issue and not a technical issue on which the resolution should be debated.

Countering him, Rana said that how is it political issue and it is a constitutional guarantee and it should be preserved. Even BJP also opposed it.

Later speaking to media outside the Assembly, Rana said “Now I have given notice for half an hour discussion on it in the House. My private member’s resolution on Article 370 was rejected by the Speaker. It was important”.

“I made it clear that everybody whosoever has a view point on it should present it during the discussion on Article 370 in the House”, he said.
