Work on 1000 MW Pakaldul power project on cards

After much delay Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd is finally going to start work on the execution of 1,000 MW Pakaldul hydro- power project from April.
The project was awaiting nod from the state government which was delayed after model code of conduct during parliamentary and assembly polls followed by Governor’s rule.
Managing Director, CVPPL, Nain Singh said: “We were awaiting government formation for last 7 months as its role in the project is important and without the consent of state government the work on the project could not be started.”
He added that now the work will likely start in the next month. “The work could start as early as April 2015,” Singh said adding that 1,000 MW power project is expected to create local employment, apart from boosting local infrastructure and tourism and lead to overall development to the villages in the state a whole.
He said that PDP-BJP government is extremely proactive and keen to start work on the project on a war-footing to benefit the people of state.
The CVPPL is a Joint Venture of company floated by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSPDC), National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and Power Trading Corporation (PTC). The CVPPL, according to sources, “has taken immense pain by inviting international competitive bids and in the screening and short-listing of all the bidders and consortium partners making sure that none has either been debarred or blacklisted during any tendering process. “Thus credibility of these agencies in association with the developer leaves no doubt on the success of this project.”
The consortium partners consist BHEL a state-owned heavy engineering firm, Turkish giant Limak Construction, which is the largest in dam construction, and Patel Engineering—the pioneers of tunneling in India having executed more than 180 Kms of tunneling and 80 Dams worldwide since 1949.
