BJP demands action against Masarat for waving Pak flag at Srinagar rally

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday demanded action against separatist leader Masarat Alam for waving Pakistani flag and raising anti-India slogans at a rally in Srinagar.

“India does not agree with his (Alam) stand of waving Pakistan`s flag in India. We want action against Masarat Alam as soon as possible. We are hopeful that state government will take action as per the law,” said spokesperson Sambit Patra.

Earlier in the day, separatist leader Masarat Alam sparked a fresh row of controversy after he was seen waving Pakistan`s flag at a rally in Srinagar.

According to reports, Alam also raised anti-India slogans to greet separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani of the Hurriyat.

The incident has led to widespread criticism over Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufit Mohammad Sayeed`s move to release the separatist leader.

Earlier, Alam was released from Baramulla prison following the new Jammu and Kashmir government`s policy to free political prisoners who do not face criminal charges.

Alam is the chairman of Muslim League, a constituent of hardline Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and is widely seen as the latter`s successor.

He had been convicted for organizing anti-India protests resulting in the death of 112 people in stone pelting across the Valley in 2010.
