Geelani slams Mufti, calls him RSS facilitator in JK

‘We waved green, not Pakistan flags’

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday hit out at Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed accusing him of ‘playing the role of a facilitator for implementing the policies of RSS in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Geelani made the remarks a day after registration of FIRs against him and other party leaders for “indulging in “provocative activities” during a rally at Hyderpora here on Wednesday.
“Mufti Sayeed is playing the role of a facilitator for implementing the policies of RSS in Jammu and Kashmir. He surrendered all his issues one by one like the releasing of the political prisoners, rollback of the black laws and return back of the power projects to the state and setting up of separate colonies for the Pandits and West Pakistan Refugees before the New Delhi,” Geelani said while chairing a meeting of the conglomerate’s Executive Body (Majlish Shoora) here.
The meeting was attended by the heads and representatives of all its constituents.
On the occasion, Geelani stressed for unity among the pro-freedom groups. “The unity based on ideologies and principles among the pro-freedom people as inevitable to defeat the aggression approach of the BJP government towards Kashmir. The extraordinary situations need extraordinary efforts and any confrontation or disagreement at this crucial juncture can prove fatal for the Kashmir struggle. New Delhi will not only increase its atrocities and cruelties but they will also try to bury the Kashmir issue once for all,” he said.
He said, “Communal and fanatic forces are not only working to change the Muslim majority of Jammu & Kashmir into a minority but with the help of cultural aggression they want to eliminate our religious and national identity too.”
He condemned registration of FIRs against the separatist leaders for raising pro-freedom slogans in the rally on April 15. “These kinds of actions won’t deter us and if demanding of freedom right is crime then we will continue to do it again and again and no power of the world can stop us from doing this.”
Elaborating, he said “registration of FIRs for holding a peaceful public rally has completely exposed the slogan ‘Battle of Ideas of Mufti Sayeed.”
“The role of some TV channels vis-à-vis Kashmir is a blot on the face of journalism and media hooliganism. Whenever any innocent civilian is killed by the forces in Jammu and Kashmir, these channels seems to be non-existent. They prefer to remain silent but when people of the same Kashmir come on the roads and peacefully express their inner feelings, these communal and fanatic people under the banner of journalism speak provocative language as if the whole India is in danger,” the spokesperson quoted participants as having said.
Meanwhile, a local news agency KNS, quoting Geelani said, “New Delhi based media created a wrong notion before the audience that the national flags of Pakistan were raised in my rally.”
“Whenever there is a function of any religious organization, green flags are waved. The flags of Jamat-e-Islami, Jamat-e-Ahl-e-Hadith and other religious organizations are green. How could green be color of Pakistan only? It is media which is manufacturing the news,” Geelani, according to KNS, said.
Meanwhile, Geelani was placed under house arrest on late Thursday evening.
Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said a large posse of police surrounded Geelani’s residence at Hyderpora and informed him about his house arrest. “Police asked Geelani sahib that he cannot venture out of the house,” he said.
Geelani was scheduled to addressing a gathering in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
