Jammu Bandh Against Setting Up Of AIIMS Hospital In Kashmir

Jammu Bandh Against Setting Up Of AIIMS Hospital In KashmirThe Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for Jammu Bandh on Friday against the setting up of lone AIIMS hospital in Kashmir. The Central government had announced setting up of the hospital couple of months ago in the state. The shutdown has received the backing of transpoters union and lawyers of Jammu also. Congress and Panthers party too are backing the protest call but want the civil society to take credit rather than leading this protest.

Many blame BJP of sacrificing the interests of Jammu just for the sake of power in state. This would be the first major protest against BJP in Jammu region after it came to power for the first time in state by winning almost all the seats from this region.

Rakesh Gupta, president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry said,”You give four AIIMS to the Valley, we have no objection with that. But Jammu shall not be deprived of the one AIIMS that was announced by the Central government in the Union budget” while addressing the meeting of local traders, industrialists and transporters in Jammu on Wednesday.

“The BJP shall have to honour its commitments to issues on which it has come to power in Jammu and Kashmir, otherwise the people of Jammu know how to make governments fall,’’ Gupta added.

BJP’s power share in the state is not going to be easy affair as the resentment in Jammu region is growing on the issues like these. It is pertinent to mention that BJP got the highest tally in the state assembly only because of the seats won in Jammu region and is sharing power with PDP in the state since two months now.

The state Congress vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, who previously held the portfolio of Health as a minister in state in NC-Congress Coalition, slammed BJP and accused the party of betraying the cause of Jammu just for the sake of power. He said, “we have no objection to Valley and Ladakh also getting an AIIMS each, but Jammu shall not be deprived of the one specifically announced for it by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the recent budget.”

Last time it was the Amarnath land row back in 2008 which had divided the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir on any issue.
