Kashmiri separatist leader Masarat Alam waves Pakistani flag to greet Syed Ali Geelani in Srinagar
Tension prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar after a large group of separatists waved Pakistani flags to greet All India Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his arrival in Srinagar from Delhi.
Separatist leader Masarat Alam who was recently released was also present while several youngsters waved Pakistani flags and shouted anti-India slogans.
Alam was the mastermind behind the 2008 and 2010 protests and stone-pelting incidents in which over 100 people most of them teenage boys lost their lives. He was later arrested on the orders of the then Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), condemned the act by separatist leaders and their supporters.
No reaction has come so far from the Jammu and Kashmir PDP or Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who in the past has creadited Pakistani and terror organisations for the relatively peaceful Assembly elections in November-December 2014.
The 42-year-old Alam, leader of the hardline-faction of Hurriyat and chief of the Jammu Kashmir Muslim League, was lodged in a Baramulla prison and released in March 2015.
