Kupwara rape and murder case: Court awards death sentence to all 4 convicts
In what may bring some sense of closure to the family of school girl Tabinda Ghani who was brutally raped and murdered in 2007, a local court, Friday, sentenced all the four convicted in the case to death.
A resident of Langate in Kupwara, Tabinda was 13 years old when she was subjected to the crime by the four men. While two – Sadiq Mir and Azhar Ahmad Mir – are residents of Langate, the other two were non-locals – Jahangir Ansari of West Bengal and Suresh Kumar of Rajasthan.
Her family had pleaded the court to award them death sentence as the crime falls under “rarest of rare” category.
The court, on April 18, had held all the accused guilty of murder, gang- rape, kidnapping with intention to kill and crime done with common intention.
Tabinda’s murder had sent shockwaves across the valley. The anger had led to massive protests demanding justice.
