Bukhari sets deadlines for crucial road projectsAsserting that Kashmir will soon have better roads, Minister for Public Works, Syed Altaf Bukhari, Tuesday set deadlines for the officials and various agencies responsible for executing various projects.

The Minister while inspecting work on various roads directed the officials to ensure completion of Pantha-Chowk to Drangbal Pampore road within 10 days, settle land acquisition claims within 10 days and to ensure repair of Srinagar-Jammu highway by using 75 mm macadam to ensure quality roads.

The Minister, along with the team of officials from his department, and those from RAMKY conducted an extensive tour of various areas to get firsthand account of dilapidated roads. Bukhari was accompanied by Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri.

On the way, he met various public delegations and assured them quality roads.

Bukhari said that Qazigund-Srinagar road is the lifeline for the Valley and asked the executing agency to redouble their efforts and increase men and machinery on the project and ensure that it is completed within shortest possible time. He said that Government can’t act as mute spectator to the sufferings of the people.

Bukhari said that the project has already missed several deadlines and instructed the agency to complete Panthachowk-Barsoo strip within two weeks.

He expressed concern over the delay in the completion of the project despite assistance being extended by the Government.

He said that with the personal intervention of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayed, Centre has agreed to release Rs 613 crore for road projects in the State.

He directed deputy commissioners of Srinagar, Pulwama and Islamabad (Anantnag) to settle all land acquisition cases. He asked the DCs to acquire the required land and compensate the owners later as per the tile of the land.

The Chief Engineer R&B was asked to execute drainage work and go for macadamization of Letpora-Barsoo portion. He asked RAMKY to repair the old highway so that travelers feel comfortable.
