Matric results add gloom to families of drowned duoAs per eyewitnesses, Faizan, a resident of Sonwar along with his friend Haseeb from Khanyar slipped into Jhelum at Zaina Kadal while trying to retrieve a cricket ball.
Their family members have been searching for the bodies of the two boys for the last 10 days and the declaration of results has only added to their agony.
“It is like revisiting the moment of the news of his death. We were all waiting for these results but never thought that my nephew would not live for this day,” Faizan’s uncle Mir Anssar said.
Faizan has secured 347 out of 500 marks. According to his uncle he was a good student and athlete. “Along with studies Faizan was very fond of sports. He would spend hours playing cricket in spare time,” recalls Mir.
Even though Haseeb couldn’t qualify the exams but the scenes were no different at his house when the news of the matriculation result came in.
“We have no regrets over the results. We want our boy back. It has been ten days but none from the government is searching for them,” a relative of Haseeb said.
Meanwhile, both the families are aghast over the “callous” approach of the state administration to find their dear ones. “It has been ten days but still there is no trace of our beloved ones. Every day we visit the place where they drowned and mourn their death,” they said.
The two boys were reportedly playing cricket at a park adjacent to Pather Masjid when they tried to retrieve a ball while holding hand of each other on Jhelum banks. Both slipped in the river and drowned.
All efforts to recover the bodies have been futile so far though commandos of Indian Navy and police divers besides locals joined the search operation.
