Taking rail to Pahalgam, Sonmarg can have disastrous ecological impact: Hurriyat (G)

Taking rail to Pahalgam, Sonmarg can have disastrous ecological impact - Hurriyat (G)Expressing reservations over PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s suggestions to Union Railway Minister to expand railway connectivity to Pahelgam and Sonamarag, Hurriyat (G) Wednesday said the proposal will collectively prove a very disastrous for the Kashmir region.
In a statement issued here, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said as already proved by the September 2014 floods, the construction of railway tracks in these ecologically fragile areas can have more negative impacts than benefits. “Constructing railway tracks can have very serious impacts over the fragile environment of Sonamarag and Pahelgam,” the statement added.
Hurriyat (G) spokesman while underlining the importance of building roads and constructing railway tracks for the development and prosperity of any region, said keeping in view the fragile and delicate atmosphere of the Kashmir only roads instead of railway tracks can prove better.
Hurriyat (G) Spokesman said the reports of experts received after the recent devastating floods in Kashmir are very alarming and it should be seriously taken and a detailed discussion should be held on these reports so that a future plan is made to deal with these kinds of situations.
