Shutdown observed in Baramulla, protests in Sopore

In Kashmir, Indian armed agents in disguise martyred one more pro-freedom activist in Badam Bagh area of Sopore, today. This is the third such killing in the town in just 10 days.

Another freedom activist killed by Indian agents in KashmirThe freedom activist, Meraj-ud-Din Dar, a local shopkeeper, was shot dead outside his home in the town. The martyred was laid to rest in a local graveyard. Thousands of people participated in the funeral. Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh, father of Altaf Ahmad Sheikh, who was martyred by the Indian agents a few days ago in the town, led the prayers. People from all walks of life including Hurriyet leader Shabbir Ahmad Dar attended the last rituals of the martyr.Later, protest demonstrations were held in Sopore against the fresh killings. High-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans were raised on the occasion. The protesters announced to observe complete shutdown in the town, tomorrow, against the surge in killings. Clashes were reported between police and mourners during the protests. Hurriyet leader, Zafar Akbar Butt addressing a meeting in Srinagar condemned the killing of pro-freedom activists.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla district, today, against the murder of innocent civilians in Sopore. Call for the strike was given by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani.

Indian police arrested a noted Indian human rights activist, Gautam Navlakha, three Sikh leaders and Hurriyet leader Syed Bashir Andrabi to prevent them from attending a seminar scheduled to be held in Srinagar, today. The seminar on fascist policies of Indian State was to be presided over by Syed Ali Gilani. However, the authorities did not allow it. The action led to anti-India protest demonstrations at Hyderpora in Srinagar. Hurriyet leader, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash in a statement denounced the authorities for not allowing the seminar.

On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik talking to media persons at Masiuma in Srinagar said that the puppet Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had left Muslims of Jammu at the mercy of the RSS and other Hindu communal forces. He said the community in the region was being forced by the authorities to leave their homes and land.

Speakers including Hurriyet and Sikh leaders at a book launching ceremony in Srinagar, today, said that killing of innocent civilians was part of RSS agenda to suppress the Kashmir’s freedom struggle. The book “ Kashmir—Almiun ki Sarzameen”— is authored by Shafi Naqeeb.
