‘Revolver used in Sikh youth’s killing’

Sikh body demands judicial probe, ballistic test to determine weapon used

‘Revolver used in Sikh youth’s killing’Apprehending a conspiracy against the community, Sikh United Front (SUF), a Sikh group, Tuesday claimed that the Sikh youth killed in police firing in Gadi Garh area of Satwari, here was hit by revolver bullet and not by AK-47 fire in police firing last week.

“The Sikh youth Jagjit Singh was killed with revolver’s bullet and not by AK-47 as is being projected,” SS Wazir, president of Sikh United Front (SUF) told while quoting postmortem of the deceased.
He said police have arrested one PSO, who is alleged to have fired from AK-47 rifle.  “However, during post mortem, bullet recovered from head of the deceased youth was fired from a revolver”.
Wazir alleged that government is trying to shield someone.
“Police constables don’t have revolvers. This weapon is in possession of police officers and that, is why they are making someone else scapegoat,” he said.
“Who fired from the revolver and who ordered the firing? This mystery is being camouflaged deliberately,” Wazir alleged.
He further alleged that government has betrayed Sikhs by making false claims of settlement with the community.
Another Sikh leader and SUF general secretary, Avtaar Singh Khalsa said there was a need to examine the kind of weapon used in firing on the slain youth.
“Under whose orders did policeman fire? Was there any magisterial order for firing on the mob? There be ballistic test to determine the kind of weapon,” he said.
Khalsa said Sikh community is deeply suspicious over the series of events that took place. “Only a judicial probe can install confidence among them and government without any delay should order judicial probe into youth’s killing to identity the culprits”.
He rejected probe being conducted by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal saying he himself is in question since he was heading the administration at the time when the Sikh youth was killed in police firing.
“We had demanded a probe by the retired or serving High Court Judge,” Khalsa said.
Wazir said after recent incidents in Jammu, the community is feeling deeply hurt and restive.
“The community leaders would decide further course of action on Saturday,” he added.
