WAPCOS to dev Rs 3500 cr projects in LadakhLAHDC Leh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with WAPCOS Limited, a mini ratna Public Sector Enterprise under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Water Resources, for development of various projects in Ladakh. CEC, LAHDC Leh, Rigzin Spalbar and CMD WAPCOS Limited, R K Gupta signed the MoU.
The MoU envisages development of infrastructure projects by WAPCOS Ltd by making engineering assessment including feasibility, detailed project report of various projects identified under heads of river front development, soil erosion control, Indus bank protection, by the WAPCOS Limited in the region.
It further provides for development of projects in Agriculture, Horticulture, Tourism, Power, Transport, Master Planning of Indus, and projects pertaining to Shayok, Seichen river Basins within the authority of LAHDC. It also envisages arranging sanctions of these projects expected to cost Rs 3,500 crore within span of 10 years and developing them as PMC/ Deposit works through WAPCOS.
Spalbar welcoming the team of WAPCOS Ltd briefly talked about the requirement of special treatment to Ladakh due to its distinct geographical conditions.
Talking about the difficulties of non-availability of solutions and technologies in arid region like Ladakh, the CEC stressed the need to carve out special and unique solutions. The CEC said that signing a MoU is a step towards fulfilling the achievements enshrined in the Vision Document.
Terming it as an historic event, the CEC expressed hope of developing a healthy, cordial and useful relationship between the two entities, and would work jointly for the development of Ladakh in the next ten years to come. Gupta assured the meeting that no stone will be left unturned to see that the joint developmental efforts would be a success which would see developments in this region.
Incorporated in 1969 under the Companies Act 1956, WAPCOS provides consultancy services in all facets of Water Resources, Power and Infrastructure sectors in India and Abroad. With recent amendment in its Articles of Association, WAPCOS has geared itself to provide Concept to Commissioning services for developmental projects across the globe.
