AIIMS issue - Agitators warn of revolt if promises not fulfilled“People of the Jammu region are seething with anger as the biased political class has snatched away from them the sanctioned AIIMS for the region,” AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) chairman ACC Abhinav Sharma told reporters.

He said the ACC, in its meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and other members of the state cabinet on June 18, had given an ultimatum till July 20 to resolve the issue.

“They (government members) wanted three months but we agreed to give them time till July 20. So, we suspended our 72 hour strike call, but if the government fails to fulfill its commitment, we will hold an emergency meeting and plan our future course of action,” he said.

Sharma said the authorities had promised that necessary orders for the setting up of an AIIMS in Jammu would be issued by the Central government on or before July 20.

“There will be a revolt in the Jammu region against the authorities. The ball is in their court now. We believe in constitutional method of agitation. The authorities would be responsible if things assumed alarming proportion in the region,” he said.
