Jammu Muslims resent ‘desecration’ of graveyard

Expressing stern resentment over holding of Dangal (wrestling contest) at a graveyard in Bishnah area of Jammu region, the Muslim Action Committee (MAC) has demanded stern punitive action against those responsible for ‘desecration of the graveyard’.

Jammu Muslims resent ‘desecration’ of graveyardAs per a MAC handout issued here, an emergency meeting of the Imams of different mosques was held here today to discuss the situation emanating out of holding of the wrestling event at the graveyard in Bag Jogiyan in Bishnah.

“Holding of the dangal on the graveyard is highly condemnable and has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. The event was held in defiance of orders of Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the court directions”, the handout said, adding “We were kept in dark that no such event will be held there otherwise the same would not have been allowed”.

The religious leaders said the Muslims of Jammu region are committed to safeguard their religious properties and sentiments.

“We have devised a plan to secure our religious sites and will ensure safety of the same at all costs”, they said.

Demanding immediate action against those responsible for holding of the event, the Imams said if action was not taken against the culprits, the Muslims of Jammu along with others will be compelled to hit street and protest against the injustice.
