Intense heat wave and humid conditions have paralyzed life in much of Jammu region with people preferring to remain indoors.

The temperature in most of the parts is hovering around 39- 40 degrees Celsius for the past few days and the heat wave has engulfed even comparatively colder areas.

As per India Metrological Department scientists, temperature was way above the normal level at several weather zones of Jammu region.

The highest maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jammu, while the hilly areas including picturesque Bhaderwah and Banihal sweat at 32.5 degree Celsius and 30.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

MeT officials said that at weather zone Batote, maximum temperature touched 29.5 degree Celsius mark while at Katra, temperature was recorded at 33.7 degree Celsius.

“Jammu recorded the maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, about 3 notches above normal.  It will also remain so tomorrow,” a Met Department spokesman told.

He added that on June 28, 2015 the temperature in Jammu touched 40 degree mark, which so far is this year’s hottest day in the area.

He predicted scattered rains in Jammu region and isolated rains in Kashmir by the evening of July 6.

“The minimum temperature is likely to drop few degrees from the normal after July 6 rains,” he added.

Meanwhile, the searing heat conditions forced people to stay indoors on Sunday leaving busy roads in all major towns deserted, while long power cuts and water scarcity added to people’s miseries.
