JK submits Rs 23000cr DPR on Chenab flood control
The Jammu and Kashmir government has sent a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Rs 23000 crore to the Union Ministry of Water Resources for flood protection works on river Chenab and has also floated tenders for Tawi flood control plan.
“We are waiting for recommendations of the Union Ministry which will get the DPR evaluated by the Central Water Commission.
For Tawi flood management plan, tenders have also been floated,” said Superintending Engineer Jammu, Rajiv Gandotra.
Minister for Irrigation & Flood Control, Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar said the Centre has approved Rs 400 crore for “urgent flood management works in Kashmir” on 90:10 ratio. “90 per cent expenditure will be borne by the Centre while remaining 10 per cent by the state,” he said.
He said the project mainly involves works aimed at increasing the carrying capacity of Jhelum and includes dredging, deepening and widening of the river, removal of encroachments, construction and strengthening of its protection bunds.
