Ramban hit by disastrous Cloudburst

A cloudburst hit HallaDhandrath area of Jammu’s Ramban tehsil on Sunday morning, causing colossal damage to several government buildings, residential houses and a large chunk of agricultural land, officials said.

Ramban hit by disastrous CloudburstThe cloudburst, an official said, hit the area of heavy rains. “A Primary Health Center, a government high school and a shop were damaged in the cloudburst that took place at around 3.30 am,” he said.

No loss of life was reported in the cloudburst which, however, damaged several hundred kanal agriculture and horticulture land in the area, the official added.

District Development Commissioner Ramban, Farooq Shah Bhukhari, said he sent Assistant Commissioner Revenue to the area to assess the losses in Upper and Lower HallaDhandrath villages. “I am in constant touch with the officer. We will have a clear picture on losses very soon,” he told .

KUPWARA

A massive hailstorm, coupled with high-speed winds and incessant rains, lashed several areas of frontier Kupwara district on Sunday, damaging standing crop, fruits besides washing away several road links.

The incessant rains triggered flashfloods during the intervening night of July 25-26. There were no reports of any casualty.

Witnesses said a massive hailstorm hit Lolab, Kupwara, Handwara and Langate areas at 10 pm on Saturday. The hailstorm along with gusty winds, they said, continued for half an hour and uprooted trees, electric polls and caused extensive damage to standing crop and fruits.

The hailstorm and torrential rains triggered flashfloods which entered into several areas and washed away standing crops of paddy and maize.

The worst-affected villages, according to official sources, are Branwari, Gugloosa, Trahgam, Gazryal, Warsun, Dardsun, Reshigund, Hayan, Panzwa, Gulgam, Halmtpora, Sohipora, Payarpora, Batpora, Bungam, Trumnard, Behramdari and Manigah.

In Handwara and Langate tehsils, the areas including Wadipora, Yaroo, LangateRamhal, Uchar, Wagat, Neelipora, Pohru, Chackla, Haripora, Check Sodal, Vilgam, Chalpora, Bakhiakar, Qaziabad, and Mawar areas were badly hit by hailstorm and flashfloods.

Officials said the district administration Sunday put its men into service to open link roads for movement of traffic.
