Doctor in Kashmir suspended for ferrying sheep in ambulance
A top Kashmir doctor was placed under suspension following a viral online picture of an ambulance being misused to ferry sacrificial sheep in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A number of netizens on Thursday morning posted the picture of the ambulance with sheep inside, on the eve of Id-ul-Adha, to a barrage of online responses criticising the officials of the medical department.
“In a State where people die for want of trauma care, this is shameful. Ambulances are not meant to ferry sheep. Hope somebody is looking at this and action is taken,” wrote a netizen.
Probe ordered
Hours later, the government constituted an inquiry into the alleged misuse. “Pending inquiry, Dr. Muhammad Ayoub Ganaie, medical officer, Pulwama district, is placed under suspension forthwith. The suspended official is attached with the directorate of the Indian System of Medicine,” said an official communiqué.
