Hurriyat defies RSS demography diktat

Geelani, Mirwaiz urge Muslims to resist right-wing party’s attempt to interfere in religious affairs

Hurriyat defies RSS demography diktatHurriyat has reacted sharply to the resolution passed by Rashtriya Sawayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wherein the right-wing Hindu party has blamed “higher growth” in the Muslim population for the “demographic imbalance” in India.
Both the factions of Hurriyat took strong exception to what they termed as a move against the Muslim community.
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said Muslims should not abide any dictates of RSS or Indian family planning policies.
“By passing such resolutions, RSS has proved its anti-minority agenda and intolerance towards minority communities,” he said.
“Muslims should not get pressurized and should not go for family planning. We cannot follow these anti-Muslim dictates of RSS. There is no restriction on birth rate in Islam. We will not let anyone interfere into our religious affairs,” Geelani said.
He urged religious preachers to spread awareness among Muslims against the family planning policies.
Expressing concern over the growing Muslim population and decreasing Hindu rate across India, the RSS passed a resolution asking the government to “reformulate” the population policy to check “demographic imbalance”.
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said RSS agenda is clearly against minority communities particularly Muslims.
“We oppose any such dictates and resolutions interfering in our religious matters. Government can’t enforce any sort of family planning on Muslims,” he said.
Mirwaiz said RSS wants to crush voice of Muslims under its Hinduta agenda. “RSS has patronage of BJP and their policies are anti-Muslim. They want to dilute the Islamic character of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Mirwaiz said the RSS move is unacceptable which must be opposed by Muslims tooth and nail across India.
Seeking to make a distinction between “religions of Bharatiya origin” and others like Islam and Christianity, the RSS claimed “higher growth” in the Muslim and Christian population, blaming this on “infiltration and conversion”.
