Make your own ration cards: Dept to consumers

Instead of providing new ration cards to consumers, the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department in Kashmir has asked them to buy a notebook where the record of monthly ration will be noted.
People said instead of providing new ration cards, the department had asked them to buy a notebook with photograph pasted on it which would be considered as a ration card and on which the record of ration and other items provided would be recorded.
“We have done as told by the department. They have said they will put their seal signature at the time of entry on it,” said a Rawalpora resident. Many people believe that keeping the records of ration on notebooks will lead to fraudulent and bogus ration cards and will create mismanagement in the distribution. Officials from the CAPD Department, however, said they had provided ration cards to consumers that were valid till 2014. “Consumers have been asked to get notebooks as we couldn’t process the making of ration cards. However, tickets will be provided by the department soon that have been completed by Jammu and Kashmir Bank. This will be valid for four years,” said an official.
