Hurriyet leaders reject India’s conditional dialogue offer
Say move aimed at misleading international community
Hurriyet leadership has rejected India’s conditional dialogue offer saying that New Delhi, by doing so, is trying to mislead the world community.
Indian government on Tuesday said that it was ready to hold talks with pro-freedom leaders within the framework of Indian Constitution.
The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, termed the dialogue offer as a futile exercise. “Nearly 150 rounds of dialogue were held previously. But they didn’t yield anything because India is not ready to accept Kashmir as a dispute,” he told reporters in Srinagar. He reiterated that the solution of Kashmir only lies in the implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.
Senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, in a statement in Srinagar described the offer as a “joke” saying that the Kashmir dispute was not any administrative issue between New Delhi and Srinagar but an internationally accepted dispute related to the fate of about 15 million people. He maintained that although every issue is resolved through talks but the condition of holding dialogue within the framework of Indian Constitution is against the spirit of negotiations.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a media interview in Srinagar said that such statements were a reinforcement of India’s unrealistic and intransigent approach. “Kashmir issue is an issue of people’s basic right to determine their political future and not a law and order problem or a centre state issue,” he said. The Mirwaiz said that Hurriyet leadership believed in unconditional dialogue between the main stake holders – the people of Kashmir, Pakistan and India – for the resolution of the dispute.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement said that holding of dialogue at this point of time was useless. He said that India was in no mood to settle the dispute and wanted to strengthen its illegal hold over Jammu and Kashmir through its military might.
The Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, in her statement said that New Delhi’s proposal of talks with Hurriyet leadership was a tactic to divert the attention of world community from brutalities it was committing in occupied Kashmir. She said that Hurriyet leadership would not hesitate in holding talks in case India stopped violence, withdrew its troops from Kashmir and acknowledged Kashmir as a dispute.
Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Farooq Ahmad Dar, and human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in their statements said that there was no question of talks within the framework of Indian Constitution. They said that India was time and again trying to mislead the world.
Muslim Deeni Mahaz in a statement also rejected holding of talks with New Delhi within the ambit of Indian Constitution.
