Ladakh House in Jammu converted into Leh House, allege Kargil residents

Allegations are being levelled against the custodians of Ladakh House for converting it to Leh House near Jammu railway station. This has forced the people of Kargil to convert the VIP House near Bahu Plaza complex as serai (a rest place for general public) for the people of Kargil.
They alleged that the people of Leh had taken over the Ladakh House and Kargil people have no place to stay.
Ladakh House in Jammu converted into Leh House, allege Kargil residents“This house has been converted into Leh House whereas it was meant for the people of the whole Ladakh region, for both the districts — Kargil and Leh. But with the intervention of Leh people, it has been converted as Leh House only,” said an official of Kargil VIP House, Jammu.
He alleged that authorities in the Ladakh House had brought their own chefs and employees and they prepared food which Kargil people didn’t eat. “We have been marginalised and even if we go there to stay, we can’t eat what they cook. There is no control of people of Kargil and we have been forced to search for alternate place,” he added.
This has forced the Kargil Hill Development Council authorities to convert the VIP House, near Jhelum Resorts, opposite Bahu Plaza complex, as serai for their own people. “This VIP house was only meant for legislators and officials of Kargil district. But with the rush of people increasing, most of the rooms have been converted as sarai with separate accommodation for men and women,” said manager of Kargil House, Jammu.
But the Leh people are of the view that the Ladakh House near railway station is the property of the Leh Hill Development Council. “Few years ago, two houses were constructed, one each in Srinagar and Jammu. As the Kargil Hill Development Council got the control of Srinagar House, the Leh council got Jammu House,” said Nawang Rigzin Jora, Member of Legislative Council (MLA) from Leh.
He said both the houses were meant for people of the whole Ladakh region but the Kargil council took control of the house in Srinagar while the Leh council got the control of house in Jammu.
