MLA Rashid seeks disbanding of VDCs, tries to gherao CM residence

Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid and some of his supporters were detained by the police when they tried to gherao Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s residence to protest the killing of a man allegedly by a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member in Rajouri, here today.

Rashid was taken into custody by the police at Gupkar as he was trying to march towards the CM’s residence along with his Awami Ittehad Party members.
They were protesting the killing of Ishtyaq Ahmed, a youth leader of the National Conference.
“We wanted to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence to tell Mufti sahib to disband the VDCs. We also wanted to tell him to constitute a commission to investigate the crimes committed by the members of these committees,” Rashid told reporters.
The Langate MLA alleged that “the RSS is ruling the state” and asked Mufti Sayeed to snap ties with the coalition partner, BJP. — PTI
