Barring few places night chill continues in Kashmir ValleySpring-like weather conditions prevailed though cold winds also continued during the day in the Kashmir valley, where the night chill is on because of sub zero temperature. Cold revisited Leh and Kargil where the minimum temperature dropped again and settled at minus 11.3 degrees and 9.6 degrees respectively.

People in the Kashmir valley woke up to yet another sunny morning, presenting a look of Spring when 20-day-long Chilai-e-Khurd, second harshest period of winter after 40-day-long Chilai-e-Kalan had still couple of days left. This will, however, be followed by 10-day-long Chilai Bacha before actually spring will set in.

There was again drop in the night temperature, though at several places it was still above normal.

The summer capital of Srinagar, where people are still waiting for seasons first major snowfall, recorded drop in the minimum temperature, mainly due to clear sky during the night. However, the day temperature was above normal though cold winds also continued, forcing people to wear woolens warm cloths.

A Met department spokesman said against yesterday’s minus 0.1 degree minimum temperature in the city, it was was minus 0.9 degrees, two notches below normal. Gulmarg, world famous ski resort in north Kashmir, which received heavy to very heavy snowfall recently, recorded minus 5.2 degree minimum temperature, a notch above normal.

However, at famed health resort of Pahalgam, where upper reaches, including holy Amarnath cave shrine, Panjterni, Pisso top and Sheshnag received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours, witnessed slight drop in the night temperature. Against yesterday’s minus 4 minimum temperature, which is being considered normal during this period of the winter, it was minus 4.3 degree. However, Pahalgam received 1.8 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours, he said.

Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir received 1.2 degree and Kokernag 0.6 degree minimum temperature which was above normal. However, at Kupwara, the minimum temperature was minus 1.8 degree, two notches below normal. Leh recorded considerable drop in the minimum temperature as against yesterday minus 2.8 degree, it was minus 11.3 degree while at border town of Kargil it was minus 9.6 degree against yesterdays minus 8.6 degree.
