Fresh snow, rain throw life out of gear in ValleyUpper reaches of Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall while plains received heavy rain, disrupting road connectivity and throwing life out of gear. The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent, light to moderate rain in the state during the next two days Director, Meteorological Department, Sonam Lotus said moderate to heavy rain and snow were expected at many places in the next two days.
Lotus told that there was no possibility of floods even as every spell of heavy rain is raising panic among the people.
The Met office said Srinagar received 17 mm of rain today, bringing down the maximum temperature to 4.3 degree Celsius.
The ski resort of Gulmarg received 11 inches of snow since last night, it said, adding that snow was also witnessed in the upper reaches of Pahalgam.
Traffic on Tangmarg-Gulmarg was closed due to heavy accumulation of snow on the 12-km-stretch, said an official. There were also reports of heavy snow in the upper reaches of Shopian district and Zojila on the Srinagar-Leh national highway.
Traffic was also halted at Qazigund, about 100 km from here, due to accumulation of snow around the Jawahar tunnel area. Restrictions came into effect at 12.30 pm at Qazigund and Nagrota near Jammu, said a traffic official. Several other road links in the upper reaches of Kashmir were also closed due to accumulation of snow.
