Concern raised over harassment of Kashmiri students
Hurriyet leaders and organisations have strongly condemned the harassment of Kashmiri students studying in different colleges and universities in India.
The spokesman for the forum of 24 pro-freedom organizations All Parties Hurriyet Conference led by Syed Ali Gilani in a statement expressing deep concern and anguish over seeking of details of Kashmiri students by the Kolkata police said that no corner of India was safe for the Kashmiris and they were being harassed everywhere in all possible ways.
He castigated the West Bengal government, saying that its action would endanger the career of all Kashmiri students studying in the state. “This action reflects the communal and prejudiced thinking which has no legal or moral justification. If the harassment of Kashmiri students does not stop forthwith and the government order (seeking details of Kashmiri students) is not revoked, it will have a strong reaction in Kashmir,” he said.
The spokesman said that the Kashmiri students had always been targeted in India in a planned manner and the episodes in JNU and Jadavpur universities last month were just an excuse to justify this harassment.
He also denounced the closure of a road by Indian troops in Suitang, Veth Para and Bagendar areas of Srinagar. He said that due to this move people, particularly students and traders, were facing immense hardships.
Hurriyet leader, Firdous Ahmad Shah, in a statement in Srinagar condemning the harassment of Kashmiri students in Calcutta and other parts of India said, the action clearly shows that Kashmiris are not safe anywhere in India. He said that the Government of India was trying to ruin the career of the Kashmiri students.
The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Muzahamat, Bilal Ahmed Sidiqui, in a statement in Srinagar said that harassment and other such tactics could not intimidate the Kashmiris into submission. He said that India instead of resorting to such methods should rethink its strategy of oppression vis-à-vis Kashmir and take steps towards settling the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
The spokesman of Muslim Deeni Mahaz in his statement in Srinagar also denounced the intimidation and harassment of Kashmiri students in different parts of India.
