Geelani vouches for safety of non-local students

Lashes out at GoI over harassment of Kashmiri students outside JK

Geelani vouches for safety of non-local studentsHurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on his return to Valley on Wednesday vouched for safety of non-local students in NIT campus and criticized Government of India (GoI) on harassment of Kashmiri students studying outside the State.

“Our religion teaches us not to have any hatred with people on the basis of religion, race or nationality,” Geelani told reporters, here.

He arrived here this afternoon after spending two months in New Delhi, where he underwent treatment. He was taken in a procession to his Hyderpora residence amidst chanting of pro-Geelani and pro-freedom slogans.

“If non-state subjects are studying here, there should be no hurdle in their study on our part,” Geelani said.

He said if non local students are studying here, then it should be ensured that no harm is done to them or any obstacle created in their pursuit of education.

The Hurriyat (G) chairman said non local students are their guests and they always welcome them here. “However, they (non local students) also need to go through the gravity of internationally recognized disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir, so raising Indian flags within or outside the premises only disturbs academic and professional environment”.

He urged non-local students not to resort to violence against their local friends and classmates.

Ruing conversion of Regional Engineering College (REC) Srinagar into National Institute of Technology (NIT), Geelani said, “This college belonged to J&K but India turned it into All India level institution due to which such incidents are taking place.”

“Time has come for people of all religions and regions of Jammu and Kashmir to unite against military presence and RSS, which is bent to impose its agenda in the State,” he said.

Lashing out at RSS, BJP, and Sangh Parivar, Geelani said the harassment of Kashmiri students is because of the Sangh Parivar.

“It is the responsibility of GoI to ensure safety of Kashmiri students outside the State,” he said.

Geelani also felicitated people for staying away from any celebration over Mehbooba Mufti’s taking oath as first woman chief minister of the State.

“Taking over of the reigns of the State by Mehbooba wouldn’t affect the struggle of Kashmiri people,” he said.

Police misbehave with Journalists

The policemen misbehaved with journalists at Geelani’s Hyderpora residence.

Police did not allow some Journalists to attend separatist leader’s press conference and misbehaved with them.

The journalists told policemen that their colleagues were already inside Geelani’s residence and they too be allowed entry. However, the cops dragged them out and misbehaved with them.
